Purchase of historical church update

Dear Friends,

Our goal of saving the formerUniversalistChurchfrom a future of neglect or demolition is one step closer to a reality.  Our offer of $40,000 for the church and parsonage has been accepted.

The Universalist Church Society of Dolgeville NY was formed in 1892, as was, the Clara Barton Chapter of the Universalist Church Society, with the congregation meeting at various locations until the completion of their building, in 1894.  The wood framed building, designed in English Gothic inspired style by an architect named Gouge, has an exposed wood beam and stucco exterior.  The building was constructed by Adolf Wegner and Brothers of Frankfort, NY, as were the several other buildings in Dolgeville.  For a number of years, due to overcrowding at theUnionFreedSchool, the basement rooms served as classrooms for the kindergarten and the 1st grade.  Upon completion of theJamesA.GreenHigh Schoolbuilding, the rooms were no longer needed by the public school, but continued as a home for girl scout meetings, boy scout meetings and piano recitals of Bertha Voorhees’ students.  In 1985, theBibleBelieversChurchpurchased the building from the Universalist Congregation.  It has since past to theNarrowWayBaptistChurch, which has now disbanded, leaving the property vacant and without a caretaker.

Future uses of the property are still under consideration, but the overall goal is to add to quality of life of the people of the community. One possible use - a welcome, culture, art and history center.

Some very talented and competent people have offered their services to us, but we cannot accomplish our goal without your help too! We must do as much fundraising as possible to accomplish our goal. Your donations are sought; any and all are gratefully accepted! In whatever capacity you can serve–phoning, mailing, baking, soliciting….we can use your helping hands! It is our intent to recognize in an appropriate manner all contributions made for this effort, once the property is acquired and renovated.

Your pledges, to be used to offset the mortgage, and tax deductable donations of money, to be used for expenses and fund raisers, may be sent to:

EastCanadaValleyVision, P.O. Box181, Dolgeville, New York13329.

Questions or comments may be addressed to the same, or telephone (315) 429-8274.

Thanking most heartily in advance,  The East Canada Valley Vision Inc.

Salisbury-Dolgeville Greenway gets $11,950 in grants

After several years of hard work and persuit, the dreams of the East Canada Valley Vision Inc. were appreciated with robust comments on the planning and execution by the members who dedicated themselves to the project.   The NYS Department of Transportation and the Herkimer County HealthNet were impressed with the detail that was presented for the grant.  It was a long time coming but still a great outcome for a great job.  Congratulations to all who were involved.
